Who makes up the Speech Therapy team?

Pediatric speech-language therapy focuses on supporting the child’s ability to communicate and play with their parents, caregivers, and friends. It may vary from providing a non-verbal child with a way to communicate to developing oral motor skills to help explore new foods to navigating social skills during peer interactions.

The team of Speech-Language Pathologists at Eyas Landing utilize a comprehensive model of combining the most appropriate evidence-based practices based on each child’s needs to ensure success towards their goals. Eyas Landing speech therapists use sensory strategies and equipment to increase a child’s arousal, oral awareness, and verbalizations.

Speech Therapy Techniques

Speech-Language Pathologists use a variety of interventions and strategies to achieve results with their clients. Therapists at Eyas Landing are well-practiced in language facilitation strategiestheories of language development, oral-motor development, and progression of speech sounds.

They incorporate these strategies into fun and functional activities to ensure each child is generalizing their newly developed skills across multiple environments.  When necessary, Augmented and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems can be introduced to facilitate communication, including the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) or speech-generating devices.

If a child’s food intake is a concern, our therapists utilize the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) approach to explore the look, smell, and taste of a variety of different foods.

Speech-Language Pathologist also use the following evidence-based techniques during their sessions:

  • Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS Feeding)
  • PROMPTS for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets (PROMPT)
  • Beckman Oral Motor Program
  • Kaufman Protocol
  • DIR (Floortime)
  • Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)
  • Aided Language Stimulation

Eyas Landing speech therapists provide services in the home, at the clinic, in the school, and out in the community, the goal being the most naturalistic environment for the child to be able to generalize skills.
