I found behavior analysis and occupational therapy while pursuing my first Masters degree. I realized I loved psychology and wanted to help children with special needs. I ended up finding applied behavior analysis as I was taking elective courses to receive a Certificate in Autism; then I found occupational therapy after spending a summer being a behavior consultant at a camp and researching different therapies that worked with kids with autism. After reading about occupational therapy, I was hooked and applied to occupational therapy programs that fall.
My story at Eyas Landing began as a graduate student. I was paired with Dr. Laura Mraz for my business practicum. Through this practicum, Laura and I developed our therapeutic Summer Camp program. In the summer of 2013, I ran our first therapeutic camp! I loved being able to develop a curriculum, implement the curriculum, and see the kids progress and enjoy themselves. I continued working at Eyas Landing part time doing Early Intervention as I worked for Chicago Public Schools (CPS). After 2 years working for CPS, I made the leap to Eyas Landing full time, as the Director of Behavior Therapy where I began developing the Behavior Therapy department for Eyas Landing and what evolved into Blue Bird Day. In 2017, I became the Clinic Director at Eyas Landing.
My Eyas Landing
There are so many things I enjoy about Eyas Landing, but my short lists includes our culture—seeing everyone have the client’s best interest at heart; our families—the devotions our families have to their child and seeing how their work reaps so many benefits; the progress—how our clients, families, and therapists evolve from collaboration, mentorship, and care.
Expand our programming to service young adults ages 18 and up for job training skills.
Create a mentorship program for disadvantaged teens and young adults who are interested in the pediatric world.
Leah, you have been so helpful with this transition inside and outside of the clinic. You are a rockstar! Thank you for everything.
