Where are you from?I am from the northwest suburbs of Chicago.
What did you study? For my undergraduate degree, I went to the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign where I studied Health Administration and Planning.
Professional bio?My name is Lauren Abry. I am a graduate of the Program in Occupational Therapy at Washington University in St Louis. During my time in graduate school I was part of a research lab focused on working with children and families in the North St Louis community. Through this experience I have further developed my passion for working with both children and their families. Families are a crucial part of occupational therapy, espeically when working with children, and they provide invaluable insight into the lives of the children we serve!
What do you specialize in?I specialize in DIR/Floortime, Sensory Integration, Social and Emotional Skills, Visual Perceptual Skills, Autism Spectrum Disorder/Sensory Processing Disorder, and Down syndrome.
Coffee or tea? I love both! I have a cup of coffee every morning and a cup of tea every afternoon!
Favorite therapeutic swing?I love the platform swing; there are so many fun activities that can be done!
What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment? My greatest accomplishment so far has been becoming an Occupational Therapist! This has been my dream for the last 10 years and I am so excited to be in a career that allows me to do what I love every day!
Books or movies?I love to read all sorts of books!
Where would you go on your dream vacation? My dream vacation would include lots of hiking and eating all the local foods! I love being outside and trying new things.
Favorite children’s book? My favorite children’s book is Stan the Hotdog Man. My grandma used to read it to us when we were little and I have such fond memories of those moments!
What skill are you most proud of? I am very creative and I love to make things! I’m always looking for something new to try…knitting, drawing, crafts.
Winter or summer? Neither! Fall is my favorite season! I love the colorful leaves!
