Name the moment that inspired you to take your career path.I nannied for a little girl who was born without part of her cerebellum (balance and motion center of the brain), and her mom credited sensory integration-based occupational therapy for her progress. In the 3 years I watched her, she learned how to walk, swim, and even ride a bike! From there I was hooked.
What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment?Graduating from OT school felt like a much bigger deal than graduating from undergrad. It was the culmination of many years of observing, interning, fieldwork, and really committing yourself to a career. The day I passed my boards was definitely a good one!
What do you love most about working at Eyas Landing? My answer is always the collaborative environment! There’s always someone to bounce ideas off, and I’ve also learned so much about speech, physical therapy, and behavior management. For kids, all of their development is so intertwined that it helps to have some different perspectives!
How has the supervision at Eyas Landing supported your professional growth?I’ve been exposed to a lot of different treatment interventions that I never would have been able to experience in smaller or less collaborative therapy settings. It’s been really beneficial for my professional growth to learn from therapists with more experience or different backgrounds.
Is there anything else you’d like to add about yourself?I’m expecting my first baby soon, and I’m looking forward to getting a whole new perspective on kids and the family dynamic. I’m also secretly hoping some of my job skills come in handy!
