My Story

I became a school-based therapist because I was a Chicago Public school student who had experienced working with peers with disabilities and from underserved/underrepresented communities. I became a therapist to work with students who self-identify as members of these communities to serve and help provide them a foundation to engage in occupations such as education, higher education, work, and play.

My Eyas Landing

Dr. Mraz was a guest lecturer for our therapeutic communication class and discussed her experiences with IRM and her businesses with Eyas Landing/Blue Bird Day. Her experiences and values as an occupational therapist aligned with what I wanted to model and become as a new practitioner.

My Advocacy

  • I advocate for the supports and occupational engagement of individuals from underrepresented groups including but not limited to: individuals from varying socioeconomic levels, members of the LGBTQ+ community, non- U.S. citizens, racial/ethnic minorities etc.

My Professional Goals

  1. My first goal is to publish my capstone project regarding the supports and barriers to inclusion within occupational therapy education.
  2. My second goal is to increase the representation of underrepresented populations in OT education and practice.
  3. My third goal is to ensure that students from underrepresented and underserved communities engage in school-based occupations and have increased access to positive occupational opportunities for higher education, work, and meaningful activities of everyday life.
